Rayleigh Mill Rotary Event at Rayleigh Museum

Last week Rayleigh Mill Rotary Club held an awareness event at the museum in the High Street. Running over several days it was part of a nation wide awareness drive to raise the profile of Rotary Clubs within local towns. As Rayleigh is lucky to have a local museum it was felt that it would be the perfect location to hold this as much of the display explained the history of Rotary itself which is…

Where have all the salad vegetables gone?!

It has been widely reported in the national press this week that we are suffering a shortage of everyday salad items such as Iceberg lettuces and courgettes amongst many other things. We are quite cossetted in this country as things like this never happen here as we expect to be able to go to our local supermarket and buy pretty much want we want when we want. I am not too old to remember the…

When we first looked at…

Our lovely customers

Squires has been in Rayleigh since we first opened our doors in May 1996. Since then we have had many people pass through our front door but one of the most lovely things is that we have so many regulars who help to make Squires what it is. We have the regulars who come in for a bacon butty before work, the school mums who meet for a bit of ‘sane grown up time’ after…

Second column for Mrs Squires In The Rayleigh Review

So I am really pleased with this months edition. I love the word ‘assemblage’ In fact I thought I had invented it until I checked my trusty Oxford Concise. I was devastated. I thought that I had added to the fabulous English language, Never mind the idea is still the same. To Create fabulous looking and tasting food with minimum actual cooking but making the most from your ingredients to maximise your and your guests…
